Have you ever attended a session of sound baths or bowl therapy? This sensory and auditory experience can be lived in Barú, one of the most visited destinations in the Caribbean of Colombia, specifically at Hotel Las Islas.

Have you ever heard about the healing power of sound baths? The sound has originated in India, where for more than 5000 years it has been used for healing purposes and has been shown to alleviate physical, mental and spiritual problems.

In line with this stance, medical therapists and scientists consider that sonic waves are part of the most powerful and innovative tools when it comes to mind and body healing, due to the multiple vibrations which return to body cells their state of harmony and calm. It also promotes deep relaxation, increases energy, relieves stress, and improves the clarity of ideas.

What are Tibetan bowls?

They are containers of different sizes made of various metals, mainly gold, silver, lead, mercury, tin, iron and copper. They weigh from 150 grams to some pounds.

The performance of the sounds is carried out with wooden baquettes, some with felt coverage, rubber or pressed cotton. The tones range from high to bass sounds depending on the intention you have: body massage, pain handling, increase concentration, and more.

The gong, an ancient instrument of transformation

The gong is an ancient instrument of transformation. Nowadays it is mainly used in sonotherapy and meditation, thanks to the profound effect it produces on the body and mind. It is also a powerful support tool in energy works of reiki or yoga, enhancing its benefits.

The vibration of this waves in the body helps cellular memory, allowing each cell to remember its natural resonance. This system vibrates between 0.4 Hz and more than 50 000 Hz, which is the same as the universe sound, from the Big Bang to the last star dust.

In a gong treatment, each person must adopt a meditative state, which allows to create her or his own unique and unrepeatable experience. This experience can be taken by people of any age and physical condition, except for those who suffer episodes of epilepsy or have a pacemaker. During the session, the sound waves are forming in the space an enveloping field of sound, full of deep and powerful harmonic vibrations that work in the body physically, emotionally and in a mental way, whose result is an intense experience of self-healing, cellular self-rejuvenation, something that happens naturally on our bodies.

The gong creates a sensation of dematerialization, of levitation, sensitization of the physical body, increase of the vital force, sensations of temporality and inner peace, which allows us to meet our essence, connecting with ourselves.

Bowls become a part of modern routines

Sound healing therapy is gaining ground in modern routines, especially in the fields of health and education, as the correct sonic waves can promote healing and balance.

In the 80s, the German engineer Peter Hess got interested in "Radiestesia", which is the science in charge of the vibrational fields in the human body. He conducted a study about the effects of sound, particularly of traditional music on the mind and body of the inhabitants of Tibet and Nepal.

This interest led him to his work with sound bowls and the creation of the "Peter Hess Sound Massage" making him understand sound, vibration and waves as a key for health and harmony.
